Contra Costa Watershed Forum Meeting September 2017

What is Contra Costa County doing to address sea level rise? There are multiple efforts throughout the county to make sure that our watersheds are prepared for change. Our speakers this month will discuss two of these:
- Adapting to Rising Tides
Adam Fullerton, Coastal Planner, San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission
Adam Fullerton give an overview of the Adapting to Rising Tides Program, with special emphasis on it’s work in Contra Costa County. From 2014 to 2016 the Adapting to Rising Tides (ART) Program conducted a climate adaptation planning effort in western and central Contra Costa County and is currently initiating a project to extend the planning efforts to the eastern portion of the County. These projects build understanding of the diverse challenges and opportunities presented by adapting to sea level rise in the County. The information developed will help guide planning efforts and serve as a resource for communities throughout the region. - A Resilient North Richmond
Heidi Nutters, Environmental Planner, San Francisco Estuary Partnership
Heidi Nutters will describe how North Richmond is planning to adapt to sea level rise within the upland transition zone, a dynamic area of the shoreline that includes human and natural features. The North Richmond Shoreline Visioning Process incorporated a community-based planning process, looking at environmental and socio-economic factors, to enable North Richmond to adapt to future community needs.
