Agenda

9:00     Coffee, juice and bagels.  The County Community Development Department and Contra Costa Resource Conservation District will bring food, coffee and juice; donations are accepted (please bring a mug to minimize our use of paper or plastic cups).

9:30     Welcome from Gayle McLaughlin, Mayor of the City of Richmond (invited)

9:35      Roundtable news/updates, including, but not limited to, the following items:

        • Watershed Roundtable (all)
        • Committee and Project Updates
          • Executive Committee Report
          • Update on the Historical Ecology Assessment (Abby Fateman, CCC Community Development Dept.)
          • Update on the Volunteer Creek Monitoring Program (Michelle Luebke, CCC Community Development Dept.) 

10:00   Symposium Wrap-up

            Discuss outcomes of Third Quadrennial Creek and Watershed Symposium held on November 15, 2007 in Walnut Creek.  Review themes of evaluation forms received.  Discuss ideas for the future. (John Kopchik, CCC Community Development Dept.)

10:20   Discussion on the Cosco Busan oil spill on November 7, 2007:  What can we do in the future to make additional use of volunteer resources? Local agency resources? What are the overarching policy considerations related to spill prevention and response that local creek and watershed groups should be aware of / participating in? 

a)      Introductory presentation on the oil spill event by Chris Boyer, Office of the Sheriff, Contra Costa County

b)      Group discussion with invited guests:

      • Supervisor John Gioia, Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors, District 1
      • Brad Olson, East Bay Regional Park District
      • Kathleen Jennings, California Department of Fish and Game, Office of Spill Prevention and Response (OSPR) (invited)
      • Gordon Bennett, San Francisco Bay Chapter of the Sierra Club and trained volunteer with the Gulf of the Farallons National Marine Sanctuary Beachwatch Program.

11:30   Adjourn to the March 12, 2008 meeting

11:30   Field trip to Stege Marsh (optional)

Karl Hans of UC-Berkeley Environmental Health and Safety will lead a tour of the marsh, showing areas affected by the oil spill and other areas where active restoration continues.

 

The CCWF will provide reasonable accommodations for persons with disabilities planning to attend CCWF meetings who contact Abby Fateman at least 24 hours before the meeting.  Agenda items for the CCWF meetings are discussed by the Executive Committee.   The next Executive Committee is scheduled for 13 February at 9 am.
