Eighth Biennial State of the Estuary Conference
Oakland, October 16-18, 2007
Conference Web Site: http://sfep.abag.ca.gov/soe/
Call for Posters
The eighth biennial State of the Estuary Conference will be held in Oakland at the Scottish Rite
Center. The conference will include plenary and concurrent sessions with invited speakers and
poster sessions. The conference is sponsored by the San Francisco Estuary Project, Friends of the
San Francisco Estuary, CalFed Science Program, San Francisco Bay Regional Water Quality
Control Board, Association of Bay Area Governments and many other local, state and federal
agencies, organizations and businesses.
The posters will be on display all three days of the conference, October 16, 17, and 18. Poster
Session Receptions are featured events that occur in the early evening on October 16 and 17. The
sessions allow participants to present their findings and meet colleagues in an informal setting,
and allow presentation of detailed, technical information of individual topics and studies that
cannot be covered adequately in the plenary sessions. This call is for poster presentations only.
In addition to the technical posters, displays presenting information about policy and
management, socio/economic issues, and environmental education programs related to the topics
of the conference will also be accepted. All poster topics must be relevant to the San Francisco
Bay-Delta Estuary.
In addition to single posters, posters can be organized in a group concerning a particular topic
(Poster Cluster). Organizing a poster cluster requires a chairperson to organize the cluster and to
prepare an overview poster that synthesizes the information from the individual posters to provide
the larger-scale conclusions or applications of the results. The posters should be well integrated
and complementary. Each poster within the proposed poster cluster will be required to submit an
abstract (including the overview poster). In addition, a poster cluster proposal form must be
submitted using a separate form on the web site (one form per poster cluster). Poster cluster
proposals will require a session title, the name of the cluster chair(s), a paragraph (<200 words)
describing the content and focus of the cluster, as well as a list of poster titles and authors.
The conference coordinating committee is making a special effort to encourage student
participation this year. Awards will be given for the best student poster presentations during the
conference. In addition to the student poster awards, various activities and resources tailored to
students are being developed and more information on the student program will be available in
the near future. To qualify for a student award, you must have carried out the presented work
while you were a registered student, you must make the presentation yourself, and you must
indicate your desire to be considered for a student award on the abstract form.
All poster presenters must submit an abstract using the on-line form accessible through the
conference website address provided below. There is a 300-word limit on the abstract text. Please
fill in all of the blanks on the form, including selection of the appropriate session topic and any
special equipment needs.
PLEASE SUBMIT ABSTRACT BY JULY 20, 2007 USING THE ON-LINE SUBMITTAL
FORM LOCATED AT http://sfep.abag.ca.gov/soe/
