Monitoring the diversity and abundance of aquatic insects helps to determine the biological integrity and overall health of our watersheds. In order to participate, volunteers must attend one of the two training dates. Both training dates will have the same structure and information, so please select the date that works the best for your schedule. Trained volunteers will be expected to commit to at least one 6-hour sampling day according to their individual availability (weekdays or weekends).

Pine Creek (WAL200 and WAL220) -
Let's meet in the morning at WAL200, which is by the Concord Asphalt Plant located at 2000 Via de Mercados. It is located between 680 and 242, so if you take the Concord Ave. exit, turn onto Via de Mercados. Go down to the end of the street, and before you get to the asphalt plant, turn into the parking lot on your left and park in the spaces marked Galaxy Press.
In the afternoon we will go to WAL220, which is near the intersection of Systron Drive and Trailside Cir. *Take 680 S to the Monument Blvd exit (49). Turn L at Monument Blvd. Turn R at Systron Drive. Turn L into the Systron Business Park parking lot and park.
*Note* All directions are given from the County Building in Martinez.

San Ramon Creek (WAL670 and WAL700) -
*WAL670 – Zephyr Circle – Take 680 S to the Sycamore Valley Rd exit. Keep left at the fork, follow signs for Sycamore Valley Rd. East and merge onto Sycamore Valley Rd West. Turn R at Camino Ramon. Turn L at El Capitan Dr. Turn R at Brookside Dr. Turn L at Zephyr Cir. Park at end of road and we'll meet here.
In the afternoon we will go to WAL700 – Playa Court – Take 680 S to the Crow Canyon Rd. exit toward San Ramon. Turn R at Crow Canyon Rd. Turn R into 2821 Crow Canyon Road. Park around the back to where the parking lot abuts the creek. There is a mall across the street from here where we can get lunch or use the bathroom.

Polly and I will meet at Clayton Library (MTD060) at 10 and start with the BMI collection. Please join us when you can. From Martinez, take 680 S to Willow Pass Road exit (51) toward Taylor Blvd. Turn L at Willow Pass Rd., R at Fry Way, then L on Clayton Rd. From Clayton Rd, turn in at 6125 Clayton Rd, the Community Library. Drive northwest (down and to left) through parking lot, then over the second bridge (stone, not metal) on the right. Turn left and park by the side of the trail (George Cardinet Path), just in front of a cement retaining wall and past the carved wooden bunny. Walk up trail until you see the fences of the golf course on the right. Chances are high that we will still be there. When we finish, we will head over to the golf course (MTD020). From CA-4E, take Port Chicago Hwy exit north toward Diablo Creek Golf Course (4050 Port Chicago Hwy, Concord) on right. From Port Chicago Hwy, enter golf course opposite Industrial Way, park in lot and go to clubhouse to get a key for a golf cart.

San Ramon Creek (WAL500 and WAL520) -
*WAL520 – Paseo Nogales – Take 680 S to the South Main St. exit. Turn right at South Main St. Continue on Danville Blvd. Turn L on Paseo Nogales Rd. and we'll meet there.
From WAL520 to WAL500 - Take Danville Blvd back until it becomes South Main St. Turn R on Newell Ave. Turn R on Maria Lane. Park in the apartment complex parking lot at 1440 Maria Lane, being sure not to park in a numbered space. We'll meet in the parking lot and walk down by the chain-link fence to creek. There is a Whole Foods near here if you want to get food there for lunch. I probably will!
