Glossary
This is a glossary of creek and watershed terms used on this website and in CCWF publications.
-
In-Stream Outfalls
- Pipes that discharge into a channel are considered outfalls. Outfalls may be located “in-stream.” For example, combined sewer overflows, which are not common (and are in fact illegal in CA), could be located in the bed of the creek.
-
Invasive plants
- Plant species that crowd out other plant species. Invasive plants often spread rapidly and can dramatically change the ecosystem and habitat. Frequently, invasive plants are not native to the area and therefore thrive due to a lack of predators.
